NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND (NAVAIR)

The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) HBCU/MI Program provides an opportunity for students to participate in research related to naval aviation at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer for 6 – 8 weeks.

The NAVAIR HBCU/MI Program’s objectives are to:

  • Encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines,
  • Further participants’ education through mentoring by a laboratory or warfare expert,
  • Contribute to naval-relevant aviation research, and,
  • Raise student awareness of DoN technology and opportunities in naval aviation.

The NAVAIR HBCU/MI Program provides competitive research internships to students at the undergraduate- and graduate-level each year.

In order to qualify for these internship positions, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements and submitted resumes must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The resume is the key means for evaluating candidate’s skills, knowledge and abilities as they relate to internship positions. Therefore, NAVAIR encourages all candidates to be clear and specific when describing their experience. Applicants must also include a copy of their current unofficial transcripts.

Eligibility Requirements:

All student participants must be U.S. Citizens and a background check is required. Students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and be enrolled in an accredited four-year academic institution deemed as a Minority Serving Institution (MSI)* by the U.S. Department of Education. Students enrolled in a two-year college may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
